not all native Americans grew corn, but I suspect that the ones who did most likely put it in the ground & watered it :)
most native Americans that grew corn, grew it with other crops such as beans, squash, and corn. they grew these together for a spiritual reason. also in the belief that these plants would help each other (which in this case is actually true). the corn would act as a pole for the bean vine to stabilize itself. the beans fix nitrogen on their roots, which helps all the crops grow more efficiently. and the squash (and its leaves) act as shade and protection of the plants. the shade from the leaves kept in moisture, even through dry seasons. and the protection kept out any animals that might eat the crops.
i hope that helped XD
They have found that Native American's began to cultivate corn at least 3000 B.C. (5000 years ago), Europeans learned of this crop from the Natives c.1492+. There is no real record of how it effected the Mesoamerican cultures, and it can only be guessed that it changed their cultures like it did any other cultural group in the world.
Corn was a native plant in North and South America , so they would dry the kernels of corn and then plant them. The old wives tale about the fish used in planting the corn is not true. This is part of the 18th century fable about the Pilgrims story .
