(standard procedure) In order to become a space marine you have to be high above standard physique in all matters. The young recruits will be trained and undergo psycho-conditioning and receive the basic implants of a space marine. Only a few succeed. Some dies. Then the recruits will take part of a scout squad where they undergo combat training and take part in different missions. When a scout is deemed ready he'll receive the all of the 19 implants that turn his body into that of a space marine.

On a regular army base (i.e. not in a combat zone) combat personnel do not carry weapons on their person at all times.
