New Moon by Stephenie Meyer is the emotional struggle when Edward leaves Bella after an accident at Bella's birthday party. Bella becomes depressed and seeks a friendship with Jacob Black and eventually starts feeling better. She begins to think about dating Jacob although she knows that she would never feel the way she did with Edward. Then Alice returns thinking Bella had killed herself when she jumped off a cliff (she was really doing a recreational sport called cliff diving). Rosalie tells Edward that Bella killed herself with false knowledge and Edward seeks the Volturi, a powerful vampire family, so he can be killed. Bella and Alice go to the Volturi in Italy to save Edward and explain that she isn't dead. When they return to Forks Edward explained that he loved Bella and never stopped loving her.
