Missouri has 34 state senators and districts. State Senators of Missouri serve four-year terms, but half of the seats are up for election every two years.
Article 3, Section 20 of the Missouri Constitution talks about the regular sessions of the assembly. The assembly meets on the first Wednesday after the first Monday in January following each general election of the state.
The citizens of Missouri and the Missouri General Assembly have the power to initiate statewide taxes in Missouri, as either state statutes or constitutional amendments. Initiatives in Missouri must also specify a funding source sufficient to cover any expenditures they mandate.
