According to the July 2011 population estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau, since the 2010 census, Austin, the 4th-largest city in Texas (after Houston, San Antonio and Dallas) and the 3rd-largest U.S. State Capital (after Phoenix and Indianapolis) has pulled ahead of San Francisco to become the 13th-largest city in the U.S. That makes Austin the 8th-largest U.S. city west of the Mississippi River.

Oops, I missed a couple: 5th-largest U.S. city in the Central Time Zone (after Chicago, Houston, San Antonio and Dallas) and 5th-largest city in the U.S. Southern Region (after Houston, San Antonio, Dallas and Jacksonville).

Coincidentally, San Francisco is also the 4th-largest city in its state, the 5th-largest city in its region, and the 5th-largest U.S. city in its time zone (for eight months per year, that is; it's #4 during Standard Time).
