Timing would depend on the application of the motor. Some 998cc engine would have a higher compression than others and this would determine what the ignition timing should be. Normally it would be between 4 and 12 degrees BTDC.
The firing order is easier. It's 1 - 3 -4 -2 Clylinder 1 is at the front (fan) end of the engine.
