I have an 87 TPI Trans AM 305 engine. I still have the factory emission sticker under the hood. It says the timing should be set at 6 degrees BTDC. I've been testing at different settings. It would seem that the engine would prefer 4 degrees for more top end power. And, 8-10 for more low end torque. Remember, when setting timing, the higher advance = less top end but more torque. And the more retarded is exactly the opposite. So try to find a balance.
Pontiacs typically like 12-14 degrees initial timing. It's a good starting point.
its a1986
what motor do you have in it
You don't set timing on a carburator or are you asking the timing on the motor
most Pontiacs
I believe it is 10 degrees BTDC
yes,timing gear inside motor.
you should be able to get a timing book from your local parts store
I need to set the timing belt in my car for a Dodge Stratus 1998, that has a 2.5 motor V6.I do have the timing belt already on the car, but it not on the right setting. Please someone help me with this question about setting the timing belt.
12 degrees before top dead center.
The Chevy 350 does not have a timing belt, It has a timing chain. If you are wanting to know where to set the timing, then I need to know the year of the engine. Thay are all different.
I will assume you asking about a petrol motor... usually its incorrect timing settings, find out what the timing setting should be, then adjust to suit a leaky exhaust system will also cause this
