That would depend upon which desert. In the Americas the top predators would be cougar or jaguar. In Africa, especially in the Namib Desert, that would be the African lion.
The cougar is generally the top predator found in the Sonoran Desert. However, the jaguar has again been spotted in parts of the Sonoran Desert which would make it the top.
All animals in the desert are potential prey with the exception of the apex (top) predator.

Both predators and top predators consume other animals; however, a top predator may consume a regular predator. No animal consumes a top predator (there may be some exceptions, e.g. a dead top predator being eaten by a scavenger, etc.)
The fennec fox is a small desert predator found in the Sahara and has large ears. See the image above.

The lion is a top predator on the African savannah - it's importance is that without a predator, the prey animals would overpopulate and eat all of the plants and create a desert with dead animals everywhere as they starved.
When there is a certain predator that has no predator of it's own it is called an apex predator. They are usually at the top of the food chain.
There are many examples of predator-prey in the desert. A common one in the deserts of North America would be a rabbit and a coyote.
