According to the GM service manual on a 2000 Cavalier it is 144 lb ft. I would assume this figure is true for 1995-2005 models since major parts like this did not change.
Over the rear axle
The axle generally goes for 160.00 plus labor of about an hour. or cheaper if you have the tools to do it yourself.
The axle nut torque specifications for a 1998 Chevy 4x4 are 165 lb ft. The metric specs are 225 N m.
