A sub from a 2.1 PC speaker system usually has the amplifier for both itself and the satellite speakers. You should be able to disconnect the satellites and use the sub by itself. You cannot use a speaker output from an amplifier to drive this sub, as the level is too high, but most surround receivers have a 'Sub Out' line level in the form an RCA jack. You can connect this using adapters to the 1/8" cable that plugs in the sub.
A small 8-10" subwoofer is as big as any truck should go.
