What is the toxic smell of reading glasses sold over the counter is it the nose pad material and is it dangerous?

Update: I just tied soaking my previously unusable "readers" in a glass with a few drops of Soft Scrub Gel With Bleach overnight. The foul odor seems to be gone. Also the plastic lenses are beautifully clean. Incidentally, the Soft Scrub does wonders for my metallic thermos coffee pot which I never could keep clean. Just put a small squeeze in and fill it up. Soak over night and rinse. Water will "bead up" on the clean surface once you rinse the pot out. NO need to scrub.
[BTW what royal a pain in the neck trying to contribute. I had to reregister since I forgot both my user name and password. But, I really wanted to pass this information on.]
