Actually, they don't have to be removed. I used to work in an OB/GYN office, and we had several patients that had cysts and didn't need surgery. It depends on the severity of them and how much pain and discomfort they put you through. Also, the main reason that patients with poly cystic ovarian syndrome usually undergo surgery is because they want to get pregnant. Otherwise, there are several medications your doctor can prescribe.
