One native tribal name is:

Seepohskahnumahkahkee (you say see-pohs-ka-noo-ma-ka-kee). This means "People of the Pheasants" and is one of the names the Mandan tribe of North Dakota gave to themselves - as in most tribal names, the term "Mandan" is one given to the ribe by their neighbours, not the name they themselves used.

Another is:

Wazhazhe (you say war-jhar-jhey). This name was too difficult for early explorers, who called the tribe Osage, the name they are known by today.
