Expanding gate valves are used in various industrial areas like isolation valves in power plants, ESD valves in production, block valves in process systems, high temperature valves in refineries, and pipeline valves in critical areas. These expanding gate valves manufactured by various manufacturers are available in all the sizes, pressure ranges, and trims used in piping systems requiring the positive shut off of liquid or gas.
The expanding gate valves are full bore through conduit valves with rising stem and parallel expanding gate and segment for tight mechanical seal and positive shutoff, both upstream and downstream, and under both low and high differential pressure.
An expanding gate valves should have the following features:
Parallel expanding gate design creates positive mechanical seal across both seats, both upstream and downstream, with or without line pressure.
Non-rising stem permits valve installation in pressure drop.

Generally speaking, gate valves in larger sizes are full bore unless you order a reduced port. You would always use a full bore gate valve for hot tapping purposes. or you would use a full bore gate vale for runinig a pig in pipeline.
How solenoid valve works?
A soleniod is a device that produces mechanical motion by electrical induction. They are a coil of wire with either a plunger which is drawn into the coil or a plate that is drawn to a metal core. Most small water valves (like for an icemaker) have a metal plunger which is attached to a valve seat. When off, a spring holds the plunger down closing the valve. When on, the coil draws the plunger up and water escapes from the now uncovered hole to the outlet. Larger valves (like sprinkler valves) contain a small valve described above as a trigger device. They contain a diaphragm that seals the main valve and is held shut by water pressure on the diaphragm. When the trigger valve is opened, it releases the pressure and a light spring pushes the valve open, letting the water through. When the trigger valve closes, the cavity on the non-valve side of the diaphragm refills with water, closing the valve.

Crack exhaust (outlet steam header) and adjust drain valves accordingly 7. When warm crack inlet steam valve allowing turbine to run at 10rpm 8. Check bearing oil rings 9. Look for carbine seal run offs 10. When turbine is warm fully open inlet steam valve and allow governor to take control to 2200rpm 11. Use speed knob to raise speed to 3600rpm 12. Turn Field Excitation Switch on 13. Check incoming and grid voltages and match turbine generator excitation to grids voltage using the field excitation rheostat. 14. Use speed knob to reach 60hz 15. Turn on synchronization switch to the synchroscope 16. Adjust turbine speed to adjust the phase angle/frequency to a steady slow clockwise rotation on the synchroscope. 17. Close generator breaker at the 5min to 12'oclock position on the synchroscope. 18.Turn of the synchronization switch to the synchroscope. The turbine is now synchronized to the 60Hz power grid.

it depends on where you are installing it on the manifold, and what you will be using it for. Gate valves really only work well as either full open, or full closed valves. They are thought of as shut-off valves so if you wished to put one at the inlet of your manifold, that would work well. If you are looking to regulate the steam to different branches of a manifold, then you would be better off using globe valves for those locations. Globe valves are designed to throttle or regulate flow.
