Operating near water. Amphibious planes (aka Sea Planes) are the most popular aircraft for operating in Alaska. Bush pilots employ them alot. One cannot always land their aircraft on land...ditches, mud, snow, trees, brush, buildings, bridges, swamps, creeks, narrow rivers, mountains, rocks; but the water is normally flat (minus some small wave action). More people own planes in Alaska (per population)than any other state in the union; and many of those aircraft are water capable.
