Spark plugs are used to ignite the air / fuel mixture in the engine
The ( 8 ) spark plugs ( in your navigator ) are needed for the engine to run properly
For example : if the engine cranks but does not start the engine is either not getting fuel , SPARK , or air
Another example is if an engine cylinder is " missing " so the engine is running rough the cause may be the SPARKPLUG , coil , not the correct air / fuel ratio etc.
The coils are bolted to the side of the engine, The spark plugs are under the coils, NO PLUG WIRES. unbolt the coils and use A spark plug socket.

To change the spark plugs on a 2004 Lincoln LS, first, disconnect the negative battery cable for safety. Remove the engine cover if necessary, then locate the spark plugs by following the ignition coils. Carefully disconnect the ignition coil connectors and unbolt the coils to access the plugs. Use a spark plug socket to remove the old plugs, gap the new plugs to the manufacturer’s specification, and install them, followed by reattaching the coils and connectors, and finally reconnecting the battery.
