Coins older than 1804 in the US were minted less so your chances are good that the coin has a decent value. You'll need to provide a lot more information to get any real idea though.

I saw at an auction that a 1795 penny with reeding on the edges still sold for $1.3 million. However, the same coin can be purchased for as low as $75. The cheap ones are hardly recognizable as pennies though. One that you can read the date on and has some detail left will be about $3,000.
