unfortunately, 1 cent. all pennies made in 1959 or after, are worth 1 cent in any circulated condition. Many thanks for your answer, but the coin in question is an 1859 one cent piece, not 1959. I understand there are a number of variations to this coin, what should I look for?Frank Lowinger
There are actually four different varieties of this coin, the most common ("narrow 9") being valued at $2.25 in VG condition. If it's a "wide 9", the value goes up to $30. If by chance you have a "double-punched" 9, the value increases considerably - in which case, I would recommend seeking out a collector or dealer who specializes in Canadian coins if you're interested in selling.
Though 1884 Straits Settlements Queen Victoria quarter cent coin is not a scarce date, it is still an "above average" date which is worth collecting. The common date for QV quarter cent is 1901. Here are the values for 1884 QV quarter cent coin in 2010's Singapore dollars: (exchange rate in 2010 is taken as RM1 = S$0.43, values quoted from Steven Tan's 2010 coin catalog) VG = $9 F = $17 VF = $43 XF = $206 AU = 90% of UNC's value UNC = $645 Numeric grades would command much higher prices. Details grades' values are around the above values, though some sellers will sell much higher due to other attributes of the coin like lustre, shine, toning and appeal. Due to differing grading standards of even very established grading companies, coins with numeric grades of AU and less can have scratches and surface hairlines too. Usually coins with scratches and surface hairlines will be given details grades.

Please post a new question with the coin's date and what image is on the front. There were 2 separate varieties, one made of copper-nickel and one made of silver, and both were issued during many of the same years so it's important to know what kind you have.
