Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mintmark, the 1903 Barber quarter is a more common date coin of this series. Most coins show heavy wear. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. In general retail values for low grade coins are $10.00-$25.00, better grade are $30.00-$65.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $75.00-$180.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched, used as jewelery or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer.
The US has never made any "Octagon Quarters" look at the coin again and post new question.
A 1903-S Barber Dime in good condition (G4) is worth: $85.00.
You have what's called a "Barber" quarter, after its designer Charles Barber. A 1903-S mint quarter is somewhat valuable; retail prices range from $13 or so if very worn, to $40 if moderately worn, and up to about $100 in like-new condition.
From 1892 through 1916, the United States Mint produced the Barber Quarter. The value of a 1914 Barber Quarter is based on its mint state: For example, if the quarter is graded as good, it value is $6.00; however, if its mint state is in extra fine condition, the value is: $65.00.
1903 is not a rare year (regardless of mintmark) and if in average circulated condition it is worth about $6 for the silver. If in better condition it can be worth quite a bit, but if it is fairly worn, a collector will really only give you melt for it.

If the date is 1895 it's a Barber quarter, the first year of issue for the Standing Liberty is 1916.
Two types of US quarters with the same date were struck in 1916. A Barber quarter and a Standing Liberty quarter. The values are very different. In the lowest collectible grade, a Barber quarter is $10.00. A Standing Liberty is $2,800.00. Post new question with type of coin.
