That's DOLLAR, just like it's spelled on the back of the coin.
And it's not an A mint mark either. In 1935 dollar coins were only made at Philadelphia (no mint mark) or San Francisco (S)
The "S" mint mark is between the word ONE and the eagle's tail feathers.
