The 1856-D Liberty Head Quarter Eagle is one of the very few U.S. coins with a mintage of less than 1,000. Only 874 were struck. It is the rarest quarter eagle from the Dahlonega Mint, also one of the most poorly made U.S. gold coins. It is considered rare. Most examples are circulated, only 6 have been graded as Mint State. If you actually have this coin authentication and grading by one of the top 3 grading services is highly recommend. In the lowest grade of G-4 the coin has a average market value of $275.00. In the grade of F-12 it's $6,000.00.
It depends on what the grade is.

The first U.S. quarter was issued in 1796. It is a Draped Bust type with the small eagle reverse. Also this coin does not have a "Mark of Value" such as 25 CENTS or Quarter Dollar.
