Break it out of the slab and have it graded by a reputable service. It probably does not deserve an MS64 and may not even make MS60.
The current value for a 1924 St Gaudens MS64 that is properly graded (NGC certified) would be $1250 wholesale and would retail for $1550. This presumes a problem free coin i.e., no heavy copper spotting or other detracting issues.

It sounds like a Sacagawea dollar. If it is, it is not true gold. It's a composite of different metals: 77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel, bonded to a core of pure copper. Though you did not state the coin's mint mark of P, D, or S, generally its value in a mint state of 64 (MS64) is worth: $3-$5.
