Often called a Barber half dollar after its designer, the value of this coin depends on what mint mark if any appears on the back under the eagle. It may be blank or there may be a D, O or S.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 04/2011:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $17

Moderately worn - $32

Slightly worn - $86

Almost no wear - $334

Uncirculated - $480 to $16,900 depending on quality

"D" mint mark (Denver):

Very worn - $17

Moderately worn - $38

Slightly worn - $90

Almost no wear - $343

Uncirculated - $468 to $32,890

"O" mint mark (New Orleans):

Very worn - $17

Moderately worn - $49

Slightly worn - $106

Almost no wear - $378

Uncirculated - $570 to $37,050

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn - $17

Moderately worn - $55

Slightly worn - $110

Almost no wear - $380

Uncirculated - $650 to $30,550

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

Assuming this is a US Half Dollar, this is what is known as a Barber Half dollar.

This greatly depends on the condition of the coin and to a lesser degree on the Mint Mark, or which Mint the coin was produced in. On the reverse of the coin there might be a Mint Mark, located just above the "DO" in "Dollar".

No Letter = Philadelphia

D = Denver

O = New Orleans

S = San Francisco

Value is going to run anywhere from about $8 for a very well worn coin to $20,000+ for a virtually flawless and certified coin. A well used example is probably worth, in typical condition, $20-50 if I had to guess.

You might try posting images of it over at cointalk.com and you might be able to get a better idea.

It's not a dollar, no dollar US coins were issued in 1906 the last year was 1904. The coin is likely a 1906 Barber Half dollar and if it has so much wear you can't read the words HALF DOLLAR on the reverse the value is just for the silver in the coin, about $6.00
