A 1918 Buffalo Nickel - aka - Indian Head - in good condition (G4) is worth: $5; its value increases to $80 if its mint state is MS60. Look under the words FIVE CENTS on the back to see if there's a mint mark letter. It may have a blank, D, or S. Numismedia lists the following retail values as of 05/2009:

No mint mark

Very worn condition - $5

Moderately worn - $7

Slightly worn - $15

Almost no wear - $44

Uncirculated - $108+

"S" mint mark

Very worn condition - $12

Moderately worn - $47

Slightly worn - $95

Almost no wear - $300

Uncirculated - $500+

"D" mint mark

Very worn condition - $18

Moderately worn - $46

Slightly worn - $120

Almost no wear - $300

Uncirculated - $450+ There is also a very rare variety that resulted when a die dated 1917 was reused to strike some 1918 coins. The engraver cut an "8" over the "7" so you can see a shadow of the 7 underneath. These coins have to be authenticated by an expert because they retail anywhere from $1100 in worn condition to over $30,000 if uncirculated.
