Look on the front of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter above the date. It may be blank or there may be an S. (The intertwined letters below the date are the designer's monogram and not a mint mark.)
1922 isn't a rare year for St. Gaudens double eagles. In lower grades the coins are valued mostly for their gold content. Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 11/2011:
