July 26, 2009 The 1908 Saint-Gaudens double eagle has 2 varities; one with the motto "In God We Trust" and one without the motto. These coins were produced at the Philadelphia, San Francisco and the Denver mints. The mint mark for Denver can be found on the obverse [heads] side of the coin just above the date and will be the letter "D" and is shown as 1908-D in the values chart below. The letter "S" indicates the coin was minted at San Francisco and is shown as 1908-S in the values. There is no mark for the Philadelphia mint and it is shown as 1908-P in the values chart below. All of the 1908 coins struck at San Francisco have the motto "In God We Trust" on them. The values of both varities in MS63 are shown in the chart which follows. Uncirculated.........MS63 1908-P without the motto...................$1,945 1908-P with the mot............................$2,450 1908-D without the motto....................$2,300 1908-D with the motto..........................$2,200 1908-S...................................................$22,000

That depends. If you're referring to the $20.00 coin, then the value as legal tender (spending money) is $20.00. The melt value for gold is in excess of $1000 (as of October 2009 gold prices). The numismatic collector's value of such a coin could be considerably in excess of $1000, if the coin was a particularly fine strike, in uncirculated condition.

Regardless of type or mint mark values are $1,440.00-$1,660.00 for a circulated piece.

But with mint state coins, type and mint mark matter a lot. Values run from $1,890.00 to over $20,000.00 depending on type, mint mark and the grade of the coin

There was no 1924 S gold eagle ($10). The Double Eagle ($20) is the only US gold coin minted that year, and 1924 S MS63 is currently listed at $23,500 on the PCGS website.
