FAQ's about 1926 Silver DollarsIt is a common misconception that the 1926 peace dollar is only rare when it has the D mintmark. in above average condition a premium is placed on the 1926 S peace dollar. the 1926 no mintmark dollar has a mintage about half of the 1926 D. In certain conditions it is rare but eventually it should become a highly sought after piece. TRVSTThis spelling is NOT an error. During the early 20th century it was common for artists to use the Roman alphabet for lettering on designs with a classical theme. Latin only had 24 letters; the letter we use for the V sound served as both a consonant and the vowel represented by U in English. You had to figure out which it was based on its context.
The same artistic license was used on other coins (e.g. quarters), buildings, signs, and other designs.
