Normally called a Walking Liberty half dollar, this design is considered to be one of the most beautiful US Coins.
Look on the back to see if there's a small mint mark letter at roughly the 8:00 position. It may be blank or there may be a D. (The W on the front of the coin is the designer's monogram and not a mint mark.)
Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 01/2011:
No mint mark (Philadelphia):
Very worn condition - $12
Moderately worn - $12
Slightly worn - $13
Almost no wear - $40
Uncirculated - $80 to $6,310 depending on quality
"D" mint mark (Denver):
Very worn - $71
Moderately worn - $84
Slightly worn - $98
Almost no wear - $281
Uncirculated - $480 to $7,740
If your coin has a "D" you should have it checked by a dealer to make sure the mint mark is genuine.
DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

Please look at your pocket change. ALL U.S. coins have the word Liberty on them, so that doesn't help to ID a coin. More, back in 1938 a picture of Miss Liberty was on both the dime and the half dollar. To get a specific value, enter the question "What is the value of a 1938 US (my coin)?" in the box at the top of the page, where (my coin) means its denomination - dime, nickel, half dollar, etc.
50$
The U.S. did not issue any bills of any denomination dated 1938.
Value is for the silver about $2.50

A US half dollar with a date of 1979 is a Kennedy half dollar not a liberty half dollar. The coin has no silver and is only face value.
To clear things up, what you probably have is called a Walking Liberty half dollar, BUT: > The person shown is Miss Liberty, not a man > The motto is In God WE Trust, not "you" > Eagles have claws, not hands. To value your coin, please check its date, then enter the question "What is the value of a <date> US half dollar?" in the question box that appears on all pages of this site, e.g. "What is the value of a 1938 US half dollar"
