If this is truly a 1944 Sportman Model 999 (it will have an 'E' letter prefix before the serial number on the front strap and under the top strap), it is a RARE war time example. Depending upon condition, to a collector this item will range in value from $200 for a poor condition piece, up to over $300 for one in good condition. Some pieces were purchased by the US Gov't - if it should have US proofs or property marks (very very rare) - it could be worth up to $1000.
None of my references show a Model 999 made by Ruger as a rifle, shotgun, pistol or revolver. Are you sure it is a Ruger, and that 999 is the model number? Please provide some additional info (lie what type of firearm, description) and we will do our best to get you an answer.

I have seen various prices for the 999. it depends on overall condition of the piece. I am guessing, but say good condition, then $250 give or take. That model has adjustable sights front and back........................
I believe it was made in 1973. I also have one with an AL prefix.
