The W is not a mint mark. It's the initial of the coin's designer, A. A. Weinman. On coins issued before 1968, the mint mark - if there is one - is located on the reverse side. In the case of the dime it's near the word ONE at the bottom of the design.1944 dimes remain fairly common collectibles, so unless it's uncirculated it's only worth its current silver value, around a dollar.1944 dime ?i have found what i think is a dime / date - 1944 not sure tho ?? any idea what this is / i can make out on the back it says united states of America .. a small coin with a lady standing on the front and an eagle atop a scroll like figure .. thanks

These coins are almost always called "Mercury" dimes because the winged liberty cap resembles the helmet worn by the Greek god Mercury. Please see the Related Question for more information.
It's not a "lady head" dime, that's a picture of Miss Liberty, so it's sometimes called a Liberty head dime. However, the Liberty cap she is wearing looks a lot like the helmet worn by the god Mercury so these coins are almost universally known as Mercury dimes. They were issued for over 30 years at 3 mints, so you'll need to post a more specific question with the coin's date and whether there is a letter D or S next to the word ONE on the back.
A circulated Seated Liberty dime without an "S" mintmark dated 1889 has retail values of $10.00-$80.00 depending on the condition of the coin.
