Franklin half dollars (1948-1963) are so common most are valued for the silver, about $11.00 as of today. The 1952 issue is a high mintage coin.

NOTE: The values for any silver US Coins follow the Spot Price of silver, so values go up & down.

Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mintmark, the 1908 Barber Half dollar is common date of the series. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. Most coins show a lot of wear. In general retail values for low grade coins are $19.00-$50.00, better grade are $75.00-$175.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $300.00-$425.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched, used as jewelery or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer.

1954 is not a rare year for Franklin halves. 1964 and earlier halves are 90% silver. In average condition their retail value is about 0.36 X the current price of silver; a metal dealer will pay less.

Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter just above the Liberty Bell. It may be blank or there may be a D or S.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 04/2012:

Circulated, regardless of mint mark:

$17 to $18

Uncirculated:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

$19.20 to $286.00 depending on quality

"D" mint mark (Denver):

$19.20 to $4750.00

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

$19.20 to $1300.00

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

Assuming you have a common Franklin half dollar with a picture of the Liberty Bell on the reverse:

As of 10/2009 a circulated one would sell for about $7, mostly for its silver content.

Uncirculated specimens retail for at least $10 with no mint mark or a D, $13 with an S.

For most of the dates and mintmarks in the 1950's, a circulated half dollar coin will be worth little more than the value of the silver (which is, as of January 14, 2010, about $6.75).

1950 silver dollar worth?

There was no US silver dollar minted in 1950. If you mean a half dollar, it would be worth at least its value in silver which as of writing is about $7.70 but it would be worth more in better condition. As with all old coins, cleaning harms the value.
