There is no way anyone can tell you the value without knowing the condition of the car and what equipment it has. The larger the engine, the more it is worth. There were 3 engines that year. The 290, 343, & 390. All were small blocks an no the 390 was not a Ford engine, contrary to some thinking. It was all AMC. This car was a winner and performance wise took a back seat to no one if equipped with the 343 or 390. There were also Group 19 dealer-installed factory performance parts; Aluminum intake manifolds, hi-lift cams, roller rockers, Detroit Locker rear-ends with gears as steep as 5.00: 1, side pipes, and rear wheel disc brake kits, to name a few. The more of these options it has the more valuable it is. Remember this is the only steel bodied America 2 seater ever built except for the 1955-57 Thunderbird. You have a valuable car. How valuable depends on many things. I will post a link that may give you an idea, but even then, this type car is worth what someone will pay for it. Do not sell this car short, no matter the condition. It is a valuable car. Research this car as mush as possible. Talk to some people who will know the value. An AMC club would be a great place to start. I looked at NADA and even with the small engine it is worth from a low of $11,000 to a high of $38,000. With the 390 V8, 4 speed, A/C, and the Go Package it is worth from $13,000 to $45,000. This is assuming the car is drivable.
AMC AMX was created in 1968.
Depending on axle ratios, most AMX with the 290ci engine could do about 115 to 120 mph.
The power of the engine and the maximum speed of the 1968 AMC AMX Coupe Manual are 420 hp and 189 mph (304 km/h) respectively.
