Serial number says its a 1978 stamped on the 52nd day, the 508 means it was made in Nashville not Kalamzoo Mi.(YDDDY508 last 3 digits are factory -499 and under Kalamazoo, 500 and over Nashville) High value, sought after guitar but 70's were not the big money Guitars. Mint $2500 maybe 3000. If you hold on it may rise as these are close to the end of Gibson USA production. Some wear won't hurt it, sometimes makes it more interesting to collectors.
Its a fake..There are not 922 days in the year!!
this will tell you: http://www.gibson.com/en-us/support/serialnumbersearch/
I got this off the Gibson web site. In 1977, Gibson introduced the serialization method that we primarily use to this day at Gibson USA, Gibson Acoustic, and the Gibson Custom facility in Memphis, TN. The serial number will be an 8 digit number impressed into the back of the headstock with "MADE IN USA" below. The pattern is as follows: YDDDYRRR YY is the production year DDD is the day of the year This would indicate your guitar was built in 1981
Please post a more specific question. Serial numbers are on hundreds of thousands of different items from banknotes to iPods.
You can see the serial number on a Gibson, on the inside of the guitar.

A Gibson's serial number is on the back of the headstock.
well the serial number isn't there that you've got so my advice send Gibson an email and see what they say. They respond very quickly.

The SERIAL NUMBER of a GIBSON Model D is stamped into the top of the frame rail, directly beside the engine mount on the left-hand side of the tractor.
What do you mean by custom? What model are you talking about?
