S&W Military & Police Model of 1905, 4th Change. Made in the mid to late 1930's. The star indicates the gun was returned to the factory for some major rework - most of the time indicating a factory refinish but could also mean a new cylinder or barrel, etc. Look underneath the grips and you may find a 3 or 4 digit number indicating the month and year of the rework. Value is going to depend on condition. The factory refinish (if that was the rework) does not hurt this model. Depending on condition, it would sell from $125-$350. If you have the 2" barrel model (rare), it would add another 50%.
