You did look at the back of the coin where the denomination appears, I assume - ?? Kennedy halves dated 1964 are 90% silver and are worth about $6, more or less depending on the spot price of silver. 1965-1969 are 40% silver and are worth $2.50 or so. 1971-present are copper-nickel and are worth only 50 cents.
