As for being able to shoot today's ammo... I wasn't too sure if I should try and shoot it... it's around 100 years old and hasn't been shot in 20 years. I cleaned the snot out of it and asked a couple of gun buddies their advice. One was brave enough to try and shoot it. No problems at all. Put 40 rounds through it directly afterwards. An extremely fun gun to shoot! We shot some bird shot... low base stuff only. I wouldn't try shooting a slug or anything not considered "low base." Though my gun shot with no problems at all it doesn't mean that you won't have any problems. When in doubt go to a gun expert and ask their advice. If you have a shooting range or know someone in law enforcement they may be able to test it out for in the safest way possible (a machine fires the gun... not a human and the humans are out of the way of any danger).
