The dollar did not exist in 1778. In fact, the U.S. did not have a central government in 1778 to issue currency of any form that we would recognize today. I have one of these to. It is old but only about 20 or 30 years old. It came with a book club membership. It has been so long, I can't remember which one but it is not real, just very authentic looking.
There were many - here is the list: Peyton Randolph (May 10, 1775 – May 23, 1775) John Hancock (May 24, 1775 – October 31, 1777) Henry Laurens (November 1, 1777 – December 9, 1778) John Jay (December 10, 1778 – September 27, 1779) Samuel Huntington (September 28, 1779 – March 1, 1781)
Henry Laurens was the President of the Continental Congress at the start of 1778. He was replaced by John Jayon December 10.George Washington became the first President of the United States in 1789.
