That's an EXTREMELY broad question. Dollar coins have been struck, with some gaps in the schedule, since the 1790s so there are many hundreds to choose from.
If you have a coin dated 1971 or later it's almost certainly a general circulation piece made of copper-nickel or brass, and is worth only a dollar.
If you have anything dated 1935 or before, it's made of silver and can be worth anywhere from its metal value up to many thousands.
If your coin is from this time, please post a new and more specific question with its exact date, and the mint mark if you can find it on the back of the coin. There may be a small D, S, O, or CC, or there may not be any mint mark.

The value of your coin is dependent on the grade of the coin. In 1856 the mint produced a seated liberty dollar and it is valued at between $400.00 and $38,500.00 depending on the grade of the coin.

No US $1 coins were minted between 1936 and 1970 inclusive. If your coin has a picture of Miss Liberty and the sun on its front, please turn the coin over; you'll find it's a half dollar. If so, there's more information at the question "What is the value of a 1936 US half dollar?"
