The idea that the new bills are misprinted is an urban legend.

US bills are dated by series and not by the year of issue. Current usage is that a series starts when a new Treasury Secretary is appointed, and changes only when a different person fills that post.

The most recent series of $5 bills is dated 2006 and began when Henry Paulson was appointed Treasury Secretary. When the BEP changed the bill's color from green and black to purple and gray in 2008, Mr. Paulson was still Secretary so the bills were issued as part of the same 2006 series. However some people assumed that the bills should be dated 2008 instead of 2006 and the story spread quickly on the internet that an error had been made, despite the fact that the series date is correct as it stands The new bills are NOT misprints and they will NOT be withdrawn.
