The 848 was created when number "1" on the die used to stamp the coin became filled with dirt or grease or some other foreign matter to the extent that when the coin was stamped it was just like the "1" was not there. Coins like this are called "error" coins because they are different from the other coins. When you consider the value of these coins, it is really difficult to give a quote without knowing the condition of the coin. Even error coins are worth more if they are in better condition. The 1848 Large Cent is one of the more common Large Cents and right now they sell from about $20 - $40 in average circulated conditions and maybe $110 or more in better circulated grades. With the filled number, you may expect to see maybe $5 or $6 more for it from someone who collects errors but this can actually only be a rough guess without actually seeing the coin.
Coins that have letters and numbers added are common, but it does not add to the value of any coin and kills the collectible value of any coin. The value of your counter stamped Large cent is "Whatever you can get".
The coin needs to be seen for idea of value, take it to a coin dealer.
