Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter below the eagle. It may be blank or there may be a C, D or O.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 08/2012:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $252

Moderately worn - $288

Slightly worn - $324

Almost no wear - $429

Uncirculated - $1,050 to $33,080 depending on quality

"C" mint mark (Charlotte):

Moderately worn - $390

Slightly worn - $1,160

Almost no wear - $4,206

Uncirculated - $11,400 to $20,630

"D" mint mark (Dahlonega, GA):

Moderately worn - $432

Slightly worn - $720

Almost no wear - $4,144

Uncirculated - $11,060 to $48,130

"O" mint mark (New Orleans):

Moderately worn - $288

Slightly worn - $324

Almost no wear - $1,328

Uncirculated - $4,690 to $16,900

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.
