You'll need to check the coin's reverse side for a mint mark. It may not have one, or there might be an S or CC. Once you know that, check the following link for a range of values. If your coin does not have a mint mark, you will need to have it authenticated by a certified dealer to determine whether it is genuine or not; there are lots of counterfeits.
As of 02/2010 the value of an 1888 double eagle in circulated condition is determined by the price of gold.

The 1886 Liberty Head Twenty Dollar gold piece is one of the lowest mintage of the entire series. Only 1,000 were struck, all at the Philadelphia Mint. Less then 50 are thought to still exist. An authentic example would have a minimum value of $10,000.00. If you actually have this coin, authentication is needed.

Please look at the coin again. The Carson-City Mint did not issue any Morgan dollars for 1888.
