That depends on the condition of the coin. If the coin is not worn very much it can be worth more than its weight in gold. Take it to an appraiser and you may be happily surprised at what it is worth!

Specifically

Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter below the eagle. It may be blank or there may be a CC, O or S.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 06/2012:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $910

Moderately worn - $930

Slightly worn - $950

Almost no wear - $970

Uncirculated - $1,050 to $18,900 depending on quality

"CC" mint mark (Carson City):

Very worn - $1,060

Moderately worn - $1,130

Slightly worn - $1,180

Almost no wear - $2,970

Uncirculated - $9,810 to $57,380

"O" mint mark (New Orleans):

Very worn - $910

Moderately worn - $930

Slightly worn - $950

Almost no wear - $1,130

Uncirculated - $1,210 to $5,330

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn - $910

Moderately worn - $940

Slightly worn - $950

Almost no wear - $970

Uncirculated - $1,130 to $50,630

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.
