UpdatedAn 1894 quarter would be known as a Barber Quarter Dollar, after its designer Charles Barber. Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter below the eagle. It may be blank or there may be an O or S.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 09/2010:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $6

Moderately worn - $28

Slightly worn - $48

Almost no wear - $137

Uncirculated - $240 to $2,830 depending on quality

"O" mint mark (New Orleans):

Very worn - $8

Moderately worn - $39

Slightly worn - $70

Almost no wear - $234

Uncirculated - $360 to $4,880

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn - $9

Moderately worn - $37

Slightly worn - $65

Almost no wear - $244

Uncirculated - $420 to $7,610

DISCLAIMER: The values quoted are the best available, but may vary due to market fluctuations. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

Depending on its mint state (condition), the value would be:

good (G-4) - $6.00

Extra Fine (EF-40) - $100

Uncirculated (MS-60) - $250
