AnswerYour coin is often called a "Barber half" after its designer, Charles Barber. Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter below the eagle. It may be blank or there may be an O or S.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 04/2010:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $18

Moderately worn - $74

Slightly worn - $150

Almost no wear - $366

Uncirculated - $570 to $22,750 depending on quality

"O" mint mark (New Orleans):

Very worn condition - $22

Moderately worn - $106

Slightly worn - $174

Almost no wear - $449

Uncirculated - $720 to $29,580

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn condition - $29

Moderately worn - $126

Slightly worn - $222

Almost no wear - $432

Uncirculated - $630 to $22,750
