It's actually called a Peace dollar. Its value is around $14 to $16 for its silver content.
The image on the 1923 Peace Dollar is that of Lady Liberty.
Anthony De Francisci was the designer of this coin and used his wife (Teresa Cafarelli) as the model to inspire him for the portrait of Miss Liberty.
Well, if it's in really good condition, I might trade my circulated 1924/1934 double headed Peace Dollar for it. I assume you'e checked the milling on the edges and borders for signs of clever forgery as a good luck peice or con-artist's flipper. But the essential thing is you have something fairly unique....they 'ain't makin'em anymore'...don't get in a rush to sell. A lot of people will try to convince you gold isn't worth much and offer to take it off your hands!
All Morgan and Peace dollars are made of 90% silver and 10% copper. The coins' nominal weight is 26.7 grams so they contain about 25 grams of silver. Any modern (1971-today) $1 coins found in circulation are made of copper-nickel or brass. The only silver "silver dollars" made after 1971 are found in proof or uncirculated sets, or were issued as commemorative coins.
My advice. Look it up on e-bay. Even if you don;t have an account
