Technically a Peace dollar is a Liberty dollar because all silver dollars minted up till 1935 carried a picture of Miss Liberty, but not all Liberty dollars are Peace dollars - only those made with the specific PEACE design from late 1921 to 1935 are Peace dollars. Normally each type of silver dollar is given a more specific name based on its design, e.g. "Seated Liberty", "Flowing Hair", or Morgan or Gobrecht for the artists who designed them.
All Peace dollars have the same design. The difference between the 1921 Peace Dollar and the 1921 Morgan dollar is that Liberty looks completely different. In the more common 1921 Morgan dollar, Liberty wears a crown with the word "LIBERTY" on it, on the reverse of the Morgan dollar, there is an eagle with olive branches and arrows in its talons along with a wreath under it. On the Peace Dollar, Liberty looks like she has rays coming out of her head and on the reverse there is an Eagle sitting on a rock inscribed "PEACE", there is no wreath on the reverse.
The 1923 Peace Dollar contains 90% silver and 10% copper.
Is it a Morgan or Peace dollar? A Morgan dollar features a personification of Liberty with a crown saying "LIBERTY" on it. A Peace dollar has a personification of Liberty with rays of light coming out of her head. The reverse of a Morgan dollar has an Eagle with arrows and an olive branch and a wreath under it. There is no 1921 barber silver dollar, it is either a peace dollar (eagle perched on a rock engraved PEACE on the reverse) or a Morgan dollar (Eagle with gothic lettering above it saying "In God we Trust" on the reverse)
Two types of silver dollars were issued in 1921, a Morgan dollar and a Peace dollar. The easy way to tell the difference is on the reverse (back) of a Peace dollar the eagles wings are folded, on the Morgan they are spread out. Post a new question after you find out which one you have. The values are very different.
A Morgan silver dollar is a large dollar coin, on the front there should be a depiction of Lady Liberty's face wearing a small crown saying "LIBERTY" on it the reverse features an eagle with olive branches and arrows and a wreath at the bottom. They were dated 1878 to 1904 and also made in 1921. The only other coin that could be easily confused with a Morgan dollar is a Peace Dollar of which some were also minted in 1921, they have the same size, but the liberty on a Peace dollar looks like there are rays coming out of her head and the reverse of a Peace dollar has an eagle perched on a rock engraved PEACE.
It's NOT a LIBERTY dollar it's a PEACE dollar and the date 1922 is the most common of all Peace Dollars with values of $14.00-$19.00 for circulated coins
