No. Because of the confusion between turpentine, mineral turpentine, mineral spirits and mineral oil, I have included links to all of these substances. All of the above except mineral oil are toxic if one drinks them. Turpentine is the only one that is not a petroleum distillate. Mineral oil as sold in a pharmacy is for constipation and to be used as directed. See related links.
Mineral Turpentine Oil
by distillation of crude and its derivates
Genuine turpentine is used by artists who paint with oils and is a wood spirit got by distillation of tree sap. Turpentine substitute is a synthetic spirit derived from mineral oil
The real turpentine is made with the fruits of the pine, the mineral one is petrol-based
Turpentine is not a mineral it is a plant extract.
The viscosity level of mineral oil used in the formulation of baby oil is typically low or medium. It is designed to have a smooth and easily spreadable texture on the skin, allowing it to glide on smoothly during application.
Mineral spirits or turpentine (oid). Use the first. You can get an odorless product. This suggestion is for your brushes.
The two classic substances that clean a paintbrush used in oil base paint are turpentine and mineral spirits. Both work excellently. I recommend the mineral spirits only because it is much less expensive than turpentine.
Mineral Spirits & Turpentine
You can use mineral spirits or citrus-based solvents as alternatives to turpentine for cleaning brushes, thinning paint, or dissolving glazes. These alternatives are less toxic and have a milder odor compared to turpentine.
Turpentine is a hydrocarbon that is less dense than water, therefore given equivalent volumes it would be lighter.
