W stands for "Wet" and S stands for "Standard". I always used to think it means Summer and Winter but I found out only yesterday.
NO , this has nothing to do with standard .
W means winter
S means Summer
All has to do with snoe , ice, weather .
in snow and bad winter areas , put it on W , otherwise on S
W = Winter S = Summer They are the driving mode for the car, whether it is winter or summer.
W is for Winter , S is for summer . In areas where there is no snow , flooding and a big miss , keep it on S . all this is in the manual .
The W button will be on the center consul near the gear selector, it is used for wet or winter weather as it changes the shift patterns for smoother starts and shifts for increased traction. (note): W button is on a toggle switch with an S so in fact it is a W/S button.
I don't know what you're talking about, since there isn't a "W" on a Mercedes Benz as far as I know. I think you're talking about the wrong car. :PMany models incorporate the letter W.In 1934 there was a W25 made and Max Wagner was head of chassis design, therefor the "W"if your talking about the w and s button on the shifter assembly it stands for winter and the s stands for summer in s mode the car will roll out in 1st gear more torque in w mode it rolls out in 2nd gear less torque less wheel spin for the snow you will notice the car has more power from a stand still in s then w
W = Winter S = Summer The car will start in 2nd gear when in winter mode.

That button is like a traction control button. The W stands for winter. That's what the dealer told me. But he said don't activate the button unless you get stuck which why would you drive such a nice car in the snow. It also enables like all the horses at your control!!
W = winter S = summer Basically the W one hold the gears better for snow and such. The S is better performing, although I've never felt much of a difference.
Good question! The W/S switch stands for Winter/Summer Some people actually use this switch and some people have no idea about it. All it does is: In the W mode the transmission starts out in 2nd gear And in S mode it starts out in 1st gear. Most people will use the W mode in winter to help with tire slip on snow or icy conditions, or older people will use the W mode for a smoother take-off from a stop and lighter shifts. Hope that helps.
The W/S button on the by the shift selector indicates what mode the transmission is in. "W" means winter and starts the car out in second gear to increase traction. "S" means sport and increases the amount of time (shown to you in RPMs) the car stays in a particular gear. "S" is designed to make the gear ratios taller, therfore adding to performance.
No. The W and S on the rocker switch on the center console next to the shifter stands for Summer/Winter. It's just a sensitivity setting for the ASR/automatic traction control/slip control.
