Depends entirely on which island and how much of the evolutionary journey took place after it split from the mainland. Borneo and sumatra are islands which support large forests with orangutans tigers leopards elephants and many more species. Madagascar is differet- because it split so early, almost all the wildlife found there is unique to madagascar (lemurs). There is also a strange thing which often happens, which is that after the island splits from the mainland the animals tend to get bigger (or on occasion smaller)- the bears and wolves in britain were larger than mainland Europe, the tortoises of the galapogas are larger than mainland versions. The Komodo dragons of Komodo are far larger than mainland versions
